The Fibonacci Bollinger Bands indicator is similar to the standard Bollinger Bands indicator, which was developed by John Bollinger. The Keltner Channel is a lagging on-chart indicator that uses a combination of exponential moving averages and the Average True Range (ATR) as inputs. Unlike Bollinger Bands, which uses standard deviations to calculate the width of the channel, Keltner Channels uses the exponential moving average and a multiplier on the ATR to determine the Average True Range Band Signals. Signals are used for exits: Exit a long position when price crosses below the lower Average True Range Band. Exit a short position when price crosses above the upper Average True Range Band. While unconventional, the bands can be used to signal entries — when used in conjunction with a trend filter. Bollinger Bands are a technical trading tool created by John Bollinger in the early 1980s. They arose from the need for adaptive trading bands and the observation that volatility was dynamic, not static as was widely believed at the time. I ended up implementing a trailing ATR stop into the strategy which seems to work just fine. I am currently working through backtesting with Bollinger Band Stops as well as ATR 5,3.5. I am also going to work in static portfolio sizing right now I am experimenting with $10,000 account at a 5% which has helped keep some of the losses at a minimum. Bollinger Bands are a trading indicator and are the first component and they measure the movement of closing prices around a moving average. The moving average is the middle band. The standard deviation of this movement is calculated and lines are plotted a fixed number of standard deviations above and below the 20-day simple moving average. The two indicators I use in that regard are Bollinger Bands and Average True Range (ATR). Bollinger Bands approach volatility from the perspective of standard

The good news is that we can very well apply the legacy collected by the old dragon traditional stock market to the situation unfolding around the crypto dragonling. Or, can we? Average True Range (ATR… Some traders for example change the standard deviation based on the values calculated from the Average True Range indicator, also known as the ATR. Because the ATR aptly captures the true range of the da and gives an average value over a period of time, the standard deviation of the Bollinger band can be set to the ATR … May 15, 2018
Look at ATR values and set stops from 2 to 4 time ATR value. Let's look at the screen shot below. For example, if we enter Short trade on the last candle and choose to use 2 ATR stop, then we will take a current ATR value, which is 100, and multiply it by 2. 100 x 2 = 200 pips (A current Stop of 2 ATR) How to calculate Average True Range (ATR) There are two differences between Keltner Channels and Bollinger Bands. First, Keltner Channels are smoother than Bollinger Bands because the width of the Bollinger Bands is based on the standard deviation, which is more volatile than the Average True Range (ATR). Many consider this a plus because it creates a more constant width. It is based on the Bollinger, RSI and TDI bands largely inspired by. Once DMTSLm = 14 // DMT StopLine -> average ATR. Once DMTSLn = 10 // DMT StopLine -> average Kelner Channels is smoother than Bollinger Bands because the former uses an ATR calculation for the width of the price channel, whereas Bollinger Bands use standard deviation. The smoother line is the reason why many consider Keltner Channels better suited for trend following strategies. Sep 04, 2017 · In my personal point of view, I still find the Bollinger Bands are a more reliable indicator and would like to use ATR Bands as only an extra confirmation. However, the middle line in a Keltner Channel is an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) and the two outer lines are based on the Average True Range (ATR) rather than on standard deviations (SD). The ATR is another way of looking at volatility. Below, we see the same cyclical behavior in ATR (shown in the bottom section of the chart) as we saw with Bollinger Bands. Periods of low
The ATR shows more fluctuations over the short-term, whereas the Bollinger Band® width seems to be smoother at first glance. Upon close inspection, it seems like the general directional output seems to be much smoother for the ATR, though.
